I purchased this unit primarily to convert our collection of thousands of slides to a numerical format. I had initially purchased a “cheapie” slide scanner on behalf of about $65 [asin:b00264gnr2 innovative technology 35mm negative and slide converter to pc]], only to perceive that it produced very poor numerical copies (detail was ok, except appearance reproduction was awful). After reviewing numerous other options on behalf of slide scanning (including sending theo- slides to a scanning service, with charges averaging about 35 cents per slide), i decided to try this unit, since it had gotten honourable reviews from others and theo- combination of charge point and features seemed to finest match my needs. I have now scanned more than 2000 slides and i am thoroughly compensated. The browse quality has been excellent – greatly better than i was expecting from a flatbed. The appearance reproduction has been extremely accurate and theo- level of detail is superb. The biggest problem – as with all flatbeds – is dust; it is difficult to keep it wholly off theo- glass, very it often shows up in scans. However, in addition to theo- obvious option of watchfully dusting theo- slides and theo- screen before each scan, several other options are convenient to behave with dust: digital ice (which i don’t greatly like, as it greatly increases scanning space and often produces weird artifacts in theo- scans); a dust extraction program in theo- silverfast software that comes with theo- unit (this also greatly increases browse time, except produces greatly cleaning agent results); and theo- “spot healing brush” in theo- photoshop elements software that also comes with theo- unit. Although i perceive that epson’s own scanning software is adequate on behalf of most slides, theo- addition of theo- other software (even nevertheless theo- silverfast is not theo- “premier” paraphrase and theo- elements is one older version) makes theo- whole package very versatile and fit merit theo- moderate charge point. It’s difficult on behalf of me to believe that theo- greatly higher priced, dedicated slide scanners would produce noticeably better results or would be merit theo- extra be priced at on behalf of most people, especially since this unit gives me theo- ability to browse photographs, filmstrips, and text documents as fit. Final point: theo- scanner arrived from amazon very instantly – even before amazon’s own earliest estimated arrival date!
